The international standard ISO 17100 establishes the requirements regarding all aspects of the translation process that directly influence the quality and delivery of translation services. It includes provisions for translation service providers (PST) on the management of main processes, minimum qualification requirements, availability and resource management, as well as other measures necessary for the provision of a quality translation service.
This international standard is intended for implementation by a PST regardless of its size. Compliance involves fulfilling all the provisions of the international standard, but the methods of implementation may differ depending on the size and complexity of the organization and, in some cases, on the volume and complexity of the translation services required of a PST file.
The use of gross result generated by machine translation systems plus post-editing services does not fall within the scope of this international standard.
This international standard does not apply to interpretation services.
The ISO 17100 standard applies together with the ISO 17100/A1 amendment. This refers to the level of qualification of the translator.
